Day 280 - 9/28 9-Month Dr Appointment

Zane spent part of his morning at the Dr. today.  He weighed 17 lbs 13 oz - 10th percentile, 29.5 inches (just under the 90th percentile) - yep, he's tall! and his head measured in at 17 inches around.  He didn't get any shots but got poked for iron testing - and found that he needs a little more iron, so he needs to take iron supplement drops for the next two weeks.

Other milestones/notables I want to remember:
- he likes to tackle Maddie and kiss her all over her face (more like drool all over).
- he likes to stand up by my tub and turn the water on.  Pretty soon I will have to take the handles off so he won't burn himself.
- he likes buttered toast and fruit yogurt for breakfast, and fresh banana chunks too.
- he likes spaghetti, pizza, avocado and any yellow or orange vegetable for lunch and dinner.
- he still takes 2 long naps during the day.

Day 273 - 9/21

Collin loves to get Zane out of his crib in the morning before he leaves for school.  The minute he hears him, he asks if he could go get the baby.  So early that morning, Collin got him out as usual and "walked" him in to my room.  Then he stopped and let go of Zane.  I was waiting for Zane to drop to the floor and start crawling towards me but instead he kept standing.  Collin dangled his socks in front of Zane's face, and of course my room was not even ready to take bright photos (the blinds were still shut).  I hurried and opened the one closest to me, and grabbed my camera on the nightstand.  Luckily Zane was still standing there, laughing at the dangling socks for one minute!  Then he was done.

Zane got scared after a minute or two beforehand.  He was so worried about falling he just held on tight and had this look on his face:

 He finally let himself fall into my lap (I was right in front of him). A couple of days before today I saw that a couple of his toys were on the floor and thought nothing of it.  As soon as I put him in his little saucer he experimented with gravity :) :

Day 261- 9/9

 Zane's unhappy little face in Snowflake.  I got him to sit on the grass but he was still quite unsure of it.  From the following series of photos I gather he didn't like the feel of the grass on his feet and legs.  He sat there like that for quite some time.:

 "I just can't get my feet off this little piece of burp rag Mom put on the grass." 

 "Nope!  I am not setting this leg down."

After 1 few minutes, he got tired of his little patch of soft and started to crawl away but not on his knees. He just didn't want to get his knees on the grass.  Funny baby!

Day 262 - 9/10

Taken at the Pettit's house.  We were glad to catch up with friends the Pettits and their bunch of 6 today.  On our way to their house (at the stoplight), I saw that the temple construction had progressed since the last time I took a photo.

No happy face for this little guy at the time I took this photo - he was super tired and needed to nurse.  So here is the sad face before he took his morning nap.

Day 265 - 9/13

 Zane likes anything sparkly or shiny.  I sat him by Maddie (who was still asleep) and started to check her out really closely with a big smile on his face.

Then at 4 p.m. - still waiting for me to get him in his crib. I stopped by our school room to help Maddie with something so I sat him in a chair to see what he would do.  He was so tired - look at his droopy cheeks:

Day 269 - 9/17

 This one morning, Zane sucked his foot like it was going out of style.  He also constantly puts things in his mouth to taste them, so I feel like we need to vacuum the floor more often!

Day 268 - 9/16

Zane is getting more confident about his balancing skills.  He loves to walk around just about everything.

Day 267 - 9/15

Zane likes crawling, but LOVES crawling away from me when I call his name and ask him to come right back.  He laughs and starts crawling away really fast.  It is funny that he is starting to be such a little tease. Maybe not so much when he's older.

 Taken just before we left to pick up the kids from school.  He has such a funny little personality now.

He likes to stick his tongue out like this when he smiles.  I love it!

Day 270 - 9/18

Zane is a member of the unofficial "pre-prenursery" class that meets in the hallway halfway thru Relief Society.  He is constantly on the move and can get very vocal and loud during lessons.  So that is where we go - with the rest of the moms who have the same age babies as Zane.  It reminds me of a time when we were students at BYU and there were quite a few who had babies in RS.  The moms were getting tired of being in the hallway and missing lessons that they corralled off a corner of the room to form a little fenced area for the babies to crawl and play - using the chairs flipped over on the floor.  It was pretty effective and for a newlywed like me at the time, I thought it was pretty smart of them!  We need one of those in our ward.

New hair

Last night we noticed something odd about Maddie's hair.  I looked closer and she had CUT her bangs off and got some of the sides too.  She looks like she has a mullet.  Oh it looks SO bad.  I am not even sure how I can get it to look right.  She got in our school room and took scissors to her pretty hair.  This is the third time she's done it this year, not counting the time she shaved off her eyebrow. Take a look:

This was taken on Monday, September 12th, just before we did her hair for a princess birthday party. I know, super bad timing!

She (and all of us) miss that hair already!

On Monday, Isa happened to be in the school room and found the bucket with the hair cuttings.  

Ha!  She even thought about cleaning the hair up.

And this is the best I could do with the hair:

No one at the party noticed that her hair was cut really bad.  I guess it must have been a little dark. Ha!

Silly Maddie.  Always up to something when she is quiet.  Resolution: ALWAYS check when she is quiet for more than 15 minutes.

So ironic.  

Why does she have scissors?!  All I can say is that she loves to cut, and will do it over and over at school.  Montessori calls this a "sensitive period".

So, it's all good. Besides, the hair will grow back.  She will be styling pigtails for the next few weeks.
