Day 68

Sunday, February 27, 2011

Old Post: Maddie is 27 months old (last year!)

Another saved draft from February 27, 2010.

There are so many things I'd like to freeze in time.

Like hearing how Maddie says "I a pwincess, Mom."  And how she loves her toenails and fingernails painted.  Watching her pick out her clothes in the morning - picture this: little maddie pulling a drawer out, picking thru her clothes, and saying "not this, not this one, um, no, not this, oooh. this one! and this one!" as she comes to me with her butterfly shirt and hot pink leggings.

Sparkly shoes on her feet. Yep, they're princess shoes too. Sometimes they're on wrong, but oh well.

Her freshly curled hair. And how she sits so still when I curl it because she knows she's getting ready to go somewhere.

How she refers to all underwear as "princess undies".  How she prefers her fluffy skirts to jeans.

Her little kisses and hugs.  I love those tight hugs. And how she likes to kiss on the lips over and over.  And how she says "I wuv u" to every one at night time.  Tonight she kissed a sleeping big sister and a sleepy brother good night, all on her own.

Her voice when she calls me Miss Rinna, Mom or Mama.

I should really take video more often.

Day 67 First Laugh

Here is Zane in his pajamas.  I love that he looks so cozy!

Zane laughed for the first time this morning.  It was so precious. I captured the sound on camera, too.  Yay!

My friend Mindy made this cute blue satin and brown fuzzy reversible blanket for him.

Day 63 - 2 Month Appt

I took Zane to his 2-month check-up today.  He weighed 12 pounds 4 oz (30%), 24.5 inches long (90%).  He got three shots + the oral rotavirus vaccine.  I didn't hold him during the vaccination; the nurse was very quick so Zane only cried when he was stuck with the needles but quieted down when I picked him up.  He took a very long nap after that and was fussy when he woke up.  I gave him Tylenol and that helped alot.  He slept for 5 hours straight after nursing last at 11:30.  I of course woke up anyway at 4 a.m. to nurse him but since he was fast asleep I decided to let him be and pumped instead.  Milestones: smiles, tracks objects, "talks" to us, and loves to make his bouncer toys move by hitting them with his hands or kicking with his legs.

My attempt at shooting my baby ala Adele Enersen (the mom who made up scenes out of whatever she had in the house and photographed her baby in them while the baby was asleep)

I wish I had magic and the 1-second shower

Maddie is one stubborn girl so I have to find many ways to reason with her.  Take these stories, for example: last Saturday morning, Maddie wanted a shower.  Nothing wrong with that.  Except that she had just got out of the bath.  She came to me while I was nursing and asked me to turn the shower on for her.  I told her first she didn't need to shower, and second, even if she could shower, I couldn't get up to turn it on for her.  But she would have none of it.  She turned to Kevin and of course got the same response, so she started screaming and crying and having a meltdown.

Then I had a brilliant idea!  I told Kevin to turn the shower on, only turn it to COLD.   I told Maddie she could shower but it would be cold water since she's already had her share of HOT water that day. I know, pretty lame excuse, but she was fine with that.

Kevin turned on the shower and she stepped in. A whole second later, I hear her say, "ok, I'm done!" and she was happy after that!  She just had to get in that shower.

Next up - the "I wish I had magic" story.  Maddie wanted her sippy cup in this little purse with her books.  She wanted it all zipped up but the sippy cup was too big for the zipper to completely zip up.  Allie gave up trying to convince her it wouldn't work at all.  So she came to me crying, wanting me to fix the problem. while I was in the middle of moving things from the nursery over to her new room.  I kept explaining how it was so big around that the zipper wouldn't work at all.  Again she would have none of it.

So I broke out my wishing voice and said "well, Maddie, if I had magic, I would make this sippy cup fit in this purse and then zip it up just like that!"  Collin in the background says, "yeah, and if I had magic I would just wave my magic wand and have this room cleaned up fast".

Well that gave her one big idea.  She looked at me with big eyes, like a light turned on in her head, and said, "Well, Mom, I have a WAND in my room!" She went in a flash and came back with a plastic Snow White wand and said, "Here try this!" Ha!

So what's a mother to do?!  I took the wand, waved it over her purse and said some magical words (gibberish) and then told her the magic didn't work so we will just have to take the sippy cup out and zip it up, and she would just have to hold the sippy cup in her other hand.  And magically this time, she was okay with that.

Oh silly Maddie Moo.

Day 62 - 2 Months Old!

This smile makes me smile!
It doesn't feel like it has been 2 months since I had this little guy.  He means the world to me!

Day 60

It Takes a Village

This week Allie started up again on the "please homeschool me" request, only this time with more drama -- especially that Jen, her friend at school, is going to be homeschooled next year.  Anyway the exchange and discussion between us were a little challenging for me.  Challenging enough that I started thinking the teenage years are not that far away.  I can see it coming.  And I am hoping it won't be as painful as most moms a few years ahead of me say.   The phrase "it takes a village (to raise a child)" quickly came to my mind.   How grateful I am that we moved here -- where we are close to family and have many good close friends who have girls the same age as Allie, and where we have a strong LDS ward, too.  I am grateful for all of it.

So today while I am sitting at church thinking about maybe doing parenting classes (for us with preteens and teens especially -- I am the midweek activity coordinator in our ward, so thoughts like these aren't that random), one of the speakers mentioned that same phrase "it takes a village".  What were the chances?!   I again felt more grateful for the good family and friends that surround us.  For the "village" we are in.  It's true.  It really takes a village to raise a child.

Busy day.  The only photo we got is one Allie took right after Zane nursed.  Maddie's face is classic.  She is always in the baby's face like that.

Day 50 - Valentine Craft

We made valentines at preschool today.  I got Zane to hold one up for our valentine card this year.  No I didn't get to sending them out -- maybe next year!  Ahh!

These next two I made a little more vintage.

Day 49

2/9
Went in for my six-week check up today (the dreaded office visit). Glad that's over.  Busy day as usual - Kaden napped in the a.m. while I updated the blog, was awake for a couple of hours (or half-awake), and then napped again at 2 p.m. til we got home from the dr.'s office at 4 p.m.

Day 48 Phases of Crying

According to Allie's observations, Zane goes through phases of crying:
1. Pout and cry like normal 2. Bob his head 3. Cough and cry at the same time 4. See a tiny little tear forming on his eye 5. You give him his pacifier and he cools down.
You know what? She's right.

Lemonade Stand

Allie and one of her bff's Alexa decided on a whim (like most days after school) that they were going to do a bake sale and lemonade stand.  They made "coconutties" and butterscotch candy.

It was so cold outside too.  Yes, it froze here and our yards looked like it was Fall!  But they just had to get a stand set up anyway.  They called it A&A sweets.

Their activity days leader, Becky happened to be picking up her boy from a playdate at our house - she bought a bunch of it and even gave them a tip.  Then their other friend Macey came by and bought a bunch of it too.  All in all they made $7, and had a big mess to clean up after, that I had to finish cleaning after.  LOL.
Miss Magz wanted a photo with the girls!

P.S. I just noticed Allie is wearing one of my sweaters.  Her wardrobe just expanded to include mine.  I thought this kind of thing stopped when I didn't have sisters in the house!  So yep, if I can't find it, more than likely it is in Allie's room, all bunched up in a ball on the floor in her closet.
