On the 4th Day of Christmas - the Rainbow

We talked about Noah and the Ark, how there was so much sin in the world that God had to find a way to get rid of all sin. Kevin read the story of Noah from the Old Testament Stories book, and asked them the following questions:

What did the people do to be saved? (Get in the ark!)
Was there another way for them to survive the flood? (No. The ark was the ONLY way).
Could they save themselves by swimming/floating? (Couldn't be done long enough - 45 days?)

We then talked about that just as the ark was the only way the people in Noah's day were saved, we can be saved only through Jesus Christ. And the way we do that is to follow Him and keep His commandments.

***Collin quips "is that what CTR is for? you know, choose the right?" - pretty much. Then Alma 38:9 was read by Collin - who was so eager to read it all without help.

Tonight's ornament is the rainbow, symbolic of the promise that God will never flood the earth again. As I am thinking about this - my thoughts point to baptism also (will have to find a way to express in words to kids later for next year. Boy, as they get older, the symbols become so much richer in meaning).

**Timmy is not going to the North Pole tonight. A little friend touched and moved him. You should have seen Collin's face and his jaw drop when he saw this happen. So concerned and so disappointed because he knew what that meant. He asked if his friend was going to get in trouble for it because she should. And I said, it was an accident because she didn't know the Elf Rules, and not to worry because Timmy will get his magic back soon enough. It was pretty funny (for me to see that is).

Just a few words about Maddie - I found out today the kid knows how to stick up for herself. My friend Mindy and her kids came over today and at lunch Mayzie (who is a head taller than Maddie) wanted some of Maddie's Sprite. They start fighting over the drink and all we heard after Mayzie was Maddie yelling with a very MAD face and protecting that cup: "NO, MAYZIE, NO! IT'S MINE!" Boy that got everyone's attention. I didn't know she had it in her to do that.
